When should I have my air ducts cleaned?
The US Environmental Protection Agency suggests considering duct cleaning when there is substantial visible mould growth inside hard-surface ducts, when ducts are infested with rodents or insects, when ducts are clogged with excessive dust and debris, or when particles are released into the home from the supply registers. After renovation work, cleaning may be worth considering if construction dust or debris entered the duct system. If you have moved into a home and do not know the duct history, an inspection can determine whether cleaning is actually needed.
How often should ducts be cleaned?
There is no fixed schedule. The EPA does not recommend routine duct cleaning, only cleaning as needed, so we look at the condition of your ductwork and tell you honestly whether cleaning is worthwhile.
Will duct cleaning help with allergies or asthma?
Duct cleaning removes dust and debris from the duct system, but the EPA notes it has never been shown to prevent health problems on its own.
