- Switchover temperature: 5°C or lower in the Lower Mainland.
- Installation: on or after October 15, 2026, by a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor listed on the Home Performance Contractor Network for this rebate.
Eligibility and terms apply, and FortisBC's program terms are the final word. Vanheat Services is a Home Performance Contractor Network member. BC HVAC Rebates: FAQ
How much is the FortisBC dual fuel rebate?
FortisBC offers a dual fuel heating system rebate of up to $4,000, or up to $8,000 for income-qualified customers, for an eligible system that pairs an electric heat pump with a gas furnace. The program took effect October 15, 2026. Eligibility and terms apply, and FortisBC confirms the final amount when it processes the application.
Who qualifies for the FortisBC dual fuel rebate?
Key conditions include replacing an existing gas furnace that is at least 15 years old with a qualifying dual fuel heating system, an AHRI-matched heat pump and furnace combination, a switchover temperature of 5°C or lower in the Lower Mainland, installation on or after October 15, 2026, and installation by a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor listed on the Home Performance Contractor Network for this rebate. FortisBC's program terms are the final word.
How do I check if a heat pump qualifies?
BC Hydro's eligible heat pump product list includes a central ducted dual fuel category and can be searched by AHRI reference number, brand and model. We check your proposed equipment against the list before you commit.
How much can I get back in BC HVAC rebates?
It depends on the equipment, your existing heating system, your utility accounts and, for income-qualified programs, your household income. Apart from the dual fuel rebate above, amounts change by program cycle and are set by each program provider, so we confirm what currently applies before you commit.
Can FortisBC and BC Hydro rebates be combined?
Some upgrades may qualify under more than one provider when each program's rules permit. For dual fuel systems, BC Hydro's product list directs FortisBC customers replacing a natural gas furnace to apply through FortisBC. We help you review which programs may apply; each provider confirms its own rules during the application.
Do I need to apply for the rebate myself?
Rebate applications are submitted by the homeowner. Vanheat Services walks you through which forms apply to your upgrade and what information is needed, and some programs, including the dual fuel rebate, also require paperwork from the installing contractor.
Should I choose a furnace, a heat pump or a dual fuel system?
It depends on your home, your existing system and which programs apply at the time you upgrade. A dual fuel system keeps a gas furnace for the coldest days and uses a heat pump the rest of the time. For a full comparison, read our furnace vs heat pump in BC guide.
How long does it take to receive a rebate?
Processing times vary by program and are set by each program provider. Vanheat Services remains available to help if the provider has questions about your submission.
